How does a novel or memoir become a film or television series? This practical workshop explores the creative and business sides of adaptation, from reshaping story structure for the screen to understanding what producers, studios, and streamers look for in potential projects.

Authors will also learn how to take the DIY route by adapting their own books into screenplays, giving them the tools to develop their stories for film and television opportunities. Through examples from successful adaptations and real-world insights, participants will gain a clearer understanding of the journey from page to screen.

Alan Roth is a member and Fellow of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and serves as an adjunct professor of screenwriting at Fairleigh Dickinson’s School of the Arts.​ He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey with degrees in History and English Literature, then attended graduate school at Emerson College in Boston, where he received an MFA in Creative Writing. ​​He is a winner of the coveted Nicholl Fellowship Academy Award for best original screenplay (Jersey City Story).​​ Alan's next release will be The Book of Leah (starring Armand Assante).
